Prominent Italian Wines from Lazio

(Latium in Latin) is located in central Italy and although wine has been produced here since roman times, only recently have the region's signature wines been receiving acclaim. Most vineyards are located in the Castelli Romani area just outside Rome and in the fertile slopes of Colli Albani. Today, Lazio produces some of the best red Italian wines like the Cesanese del Piglio. It is the only red wine variety DOCG from the Region produced from the rare hard to grow Cesanese d'Affile indigenous grape variety. The best known in the white wines is the Frascati made from Malvasia, Trebbiano and other local white varieties.
